Every day people around the world drink millions of cups of coffee. It has become a staple of life. We see a StarBucks on every corner.

Is coffee really this good or is it so addictive?
I think it is both really. I think good coffee almost has a sexy taste to it. It tastes rich and full bodied. Not many things can compare to it. Maybe chocolate, but that is another article all together. You love to drink coffee. You love a good cup of steaming hot Joe on a cold morning. Watching the steam come off the coffee as it snows outside is a very relaxing thought.

Is coffee good or bad for you?
Well, I think it depends on who you ask. Usually what you will find is these scientists are paid by a company that wants to prove a point. Simply put, they pay the scientists off. As in all things, you must drink coffee in moderation. A cup or two each day isn’t going to be bad for you. If on the other hand you are drinking a pot every hour, you know that it will have an effect on you. I have known people who drink coffee like this. They drink it from the time they wake up to the time they go to bed. This is common in alcoholics. Let’s talk about some of the bad things about coffee.

Coffee stains your teeth.

We all know what the color of coffee stained teeth are. It is up there with cigarette smoke stained teeth. You can buy things to whiten your teeth. I would suggest though that instead of trying to whiten your teeth, you cut back a little on the brew.

Bad breath.

Have you ever had a whiff of the breath of someone who is a heavy coffee drinker? It smells horrible. I would rather smell shit with flies buzzing around it.

It raises stress levels.

Too much coffee can raise anxiety levels. When this happens, you can become stressed out. This shouldn’t be news to you. Have you ever seen how much a person shakes after they drink too much coffee?

It can raise the risk of a heart attack.

While science is still somewhat out on this, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise. If it elevates the heart and blood pressure, too much of it can’t be a good thing.

Sterility.

Yes, it can effect the little guys swimming in your semen. It can actually lower your sperm count.
I know that may sound too weird to be true, but it is.

Stomach problems.

People who drink too much coffee may have some stomach problems. The caffeine irrates the lining of the stomach.

Here are some of the benefits of coffee.
It prevents prostate cancer.
This is too weird, but it is true. Coffee contains boron, which is a chemical that helps curb prostate cancer.
It is a good social drink.
You don’t drink alcohol? Well, people go to the coffee house to chat all the time. A cup of coffee could be a good reason to go out and meet new people. A cup once and while can’t hurt. You never know, you might meet a good friend over that cup of Joe.
It helps wash down a meal.
In many cultures it is impolite to either start a meal or finish one without having a cup of coffee. No one is certain that coffee actually helps the digestion process, but it sure tastes good after a meal.

As with all things in life, you need to do things in moderation.

If you feel that you are over doing it, you need to cut back on the coffee. I know that coffee might taste good, but in the long run you are doing yourself more harm than good. Just keep in mind that one or two cups per day isn’t going to hurt you.

The Diet

Frequently dieters are told not to say that they’re on a diet, but rather that they have changed their lifestyle. For the person with diabetes, especially one who is experiencing complications, diet is not an optional lifestyle. The quality of your life depends on what you eat. Which food plan you should be following is a decision for you and your doctor and/or dietitian, not one you should be making on your own. Further, there is no one plan that is right for every person with diabetes. If you have heart disease or kidney disease or other complications in addition to your diabetes, you may find yourself trying to figure out how to coordinate two (or more) seemingly incompatible diets. Say, for example, your renal (kidney) doctor wants you to limit your protein and sodium, potassium, and/or phosphorus intakes; your cardiologist wants you to limit your fat intake; and your endocrinologist wants you to limit your carbohydrate intake. What does that leave!? It leaves you with a lot of stress. The best way to deal with the situation is to visit a dietitian or nutritionist who will help you coordinate your various diets and find foods that are acceptable to you. It would be foolish and even dangerous for me to prescribe which diet is right for you in an introduction to a cookbook. The purpose of this book is to help you find and prepare flavorful foods that fit into the diet your health professionals have already prescribed. To this end I have provided nutritional information for each recipe (more about that later). It is your job to choose the recipes compatible with your needs. It is my deepest hope that these recipes will help you realize there is still pleasure to be found in eating and that limitations do not need to mean liabilities or deficits. You are now a member of that group of people who are eating healthfully, and, as you will see from these recipes, it can be a joyful experience if you allow it to be.

What Is Diabetes?

Diabetes is a disorder of carbohydrate metabolism characterized by elevated blood glucose and defective insulin secretion or utilization. Translated into English: The blood sugar (glucose) level is the concentration of glucose in the blood. It is measured in milligrams per deciliter (a value of 70 to 110 is considered normal). While blood sugar in a healthy person does vary according to the time of day and especially after meals, insulin regulates the sugar and keeps it at a pretty even level. In a person with diabetes this mechanism does not function correctly and blood sugar levels can rise to dangerous highs of 600 or more in people who have not treated their diabetes (though most do not rise that high).

It is easy to go into denial about diabetes, especially if you have just been diagnosed, because in many cases there are no “real” symptoms. You can feel perfectly “normal” with diabetes. You can have diabetes and not even know it (there are estimates of as many as 8 million people with undiagnosed diabetes). So, if you don’t feel bad, why should you have to give up french fries, brownies, ice cream, and other desserts or foods that you really love? The answers is, ofcourse, to stay alive.

In a complex world where we are living right now there are lots of things that can tempt us to buy or eat which can later affect our health. There are lots of processed foods, preserved foods, junk foods, and fast and restaurant foods which can endanger our health. There are lots of vices- smoking, alcohol and prohibited drugs which already tempted many users and had brought detrimental effects to them. All of these things can bring high cholesterol levels which in turn cause high blood pressure. If not properly and medically attended, this can cause another bad condition like heart attack, heart failure, stroke, kidney diseases and many more. Hence, it is always necessary to monitor our blood pressure so as not to give injurious effects to us.

To help maintain good blood pressure, it is necessary to have changes in the lifestyles. There must changes in the diet, do a lot of exercise, losing weight, cutting down salt and fatty foods and the most important is to cut down all vices.

Regarding a change in the diet, the DASH diet is considered as a well balanced diet where it is loaded with fruits and vegetables with fewer intakes of meat and fish. A typical DASH diet includes carbohydrates, fats and proteins.

But there are other sources of proteins like milk products especially skimmed milk, low fat yogurt and cheese. There are protein shakes which are flavored in vanilla, chocolate, and fruit and berry punch and these can be added to either milk or fruit drinks.
Other sources of proteins are whey, casein, rice and soy. Whey and casein are complete in proteins having all the amino acids both essential and non-essential. Rice is rich in protein which is good for allergies because it contains hypoallergenic proteins. Soybeans contain vegetable proteins which is ideal for vegetarians.

Doing a lot of exercise is good both for the health and heart and can maintain good blood pressure. There are several physical exercises where you can resort to- walking, strolling, jogging, bicycling, swimming, aerobics other sports activities. Other exercises would include deep breathing, meditation and yoga.

Weight loss can also maintain good blood pressure. If you want to be successful in your pursuit to weight loss, you must have determination to do it; otherwise, you’ll not feel good and look good.
By cutting down salt and fatty foods, you can maintain good blood pressure because too much of these are not good to the heart. It can cause the arteries to clog thereby resulting to inability of the heart to function well and at the end it will cause heart attack or heart failure and strokes as the case may be.

Cutting down all vices is important for a healthy body, heart and mind. Remember it’s only a waste of money indulging to alcohol, cigarette smoking and most of all prohibited drugs. As an addition to it, damage to the body is the end effect. Cut all of these and for sure you’re on your way to a healthier, longer and happier life.

Once you have hypertension or high blood pressure, maintaining good blood pressure should be part of your plan. Although doctor’s checked-up and prescribed drugs are important yet doing natural ways to lower your BP is still the best because it could stay off to your medication in your entire life. Here are some tips to maintain good blood pressure.

Lose weight
There can be a dramatic impact to your health once you lose some pounds. A heavy weight person can hardly move so much so that the heart is hard to work pushing blood to the veins and the other parts of the body. But in losing weight, it can make you healthier and at the same time lower your blood pressure.

Regular exercise
Regular exercise is what our body needs. Just devote thirty minutes of your time per day for at least three times in a week for a regular exercise. You can do any of these: walking, strolling, jogging, swimming, or joining any of the sports activities. Regular exercise reduces stress, pressure and anxiety and can give you a more active and energetic life free from any sickness particularly
cardiovascular diseases

More fresh fruits and vegetables
Fresh fruits and vegetables contain more fibers and other essential nutrients our body needs. These are good not only for lowering blood pressure but also for losing weight.

Minimize use of salt
To avoid high blood pressure, the use of salt in foods prepared in the table must be reduced. Instead, it is important to eat unprocessed and organic fruits and vegetables because these are sodium free.
Avoid alcohol, tobacco, prohibited drugs and caffeine
These vices give more risk to high blood pressure or hypertension. They can bring deleterious effects to our body to the extent of damaging our body tissues and preventing the flow of blood as well as the supply of oxygen to our heart and the brain.
Eliminating them is the best way to stay fit and right and away from any disease particularly heart diseases.

Yoga
Staying calm and relaxed, both physical and emotional can be considered as part of a healthy lifestyle. One method to do this is through yoga which is usually done by stretching, meditation and deep breathing. This helps in making our body flexible and more mobile and improves cardiovascular health. These are activities which are considered more relaxing ones by taking away all worries, stress, anxiety and pressure.

Tai-Chi
This is another relaxing exercise common to Chinese which is usually done with slow movement of the body coordinating with deep and controlled breathing exercise. Like yoga, it can also help make our body more relaxed. This is more advisable to the senior citizens since it could make the body and muscles more flexible. It can make both body and mind calm and relax.
Considering all of the above for sure you’ll have a healthier, happier and longer life.
